in the night sky: The Travel Tips: Las Vegas + Cancun Edition

After our time in San Diego was up, we drove through the desert to Vegas. ?We did this drive last year too and were keen to repeat the experience, stopping along the way to eat and fill up the car (this is how we discovered that you have to prepay for petrol in the States, which can be a bit tricky if you don't know how much fuel your rental car takes).

1. The lobby at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. ?I love this hotel so much I insisted we go back and stay there again - I obviously recommend it! ?It's in a great location?in the heart of the strip?right next door to the Bellagio (and it's fountain show). ?Great rooms and 2 pools to choose from, plus some great places to eat. Love it.

2. Cancun, Mexico. ?If you have the chance to go there, do - that picture is of the beach out the front of the resort we stayed at, the Fiesta Americana Condesa, an all-inclusive resort. ?When I say all-inclusive, I mean it - not just food (5 restaurants to choose from), but alcohol too (beer, wine, spirits - yes, including margaritas!). ?The resort is not the newest in the Cancun Hotel Zone but the service and food/drinks were fantastic.

3. While in Cancun, go on the day trip to the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza?- at the end of the day you'll be taken to a cenote to swim in. ?A cenote is a natural sinkhole and were sacred by the Maya. I was a little nervous to go in (I don't like water where I can't see what's swimming around with me!) but once in it was really invigorating. Don't freak out but you'll be swimming with catfish (only little ones!) if you do take the plunge.

4. If you get offered a room upgrade in Vegas, take it! ?We did and ended up with this awesome view of the strip. ?Even after seeing the Bellagio fountain show what felt like a hundred times, I still went out on the balcony to watch it again and again (and again...).
